The 17th Century Bridge House over Stock Ghyll (a tributary of the River Rothay) is one of the most photographed scenes in Lakeland, and is now a shop and information centre for the National Trust. Hard to believe that a family with 6 kids used to live there. Ambleside, a lovely little town, with oodles of charm, has become a major tourist resort in the Lake District of England. St Mary´s Church, Ambleside, in the beautiful English Lake District. Built between 1850 and 1854 in the Early Gothic style. The architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott. It was not as ornate as many Victorian churches, and was one of the first in the North to incorporate ideas from the Oxford Movement. Unlike many Lakeland churches, it has a spire, and is built of sandstone which was more easily worked than the local slate. Dating back to the 17th century, this unique building stands over Stock Beck in the middle of Ambleside. Bridge house has had many practical uses, include being used as a counting house for the mills of Rattle Ghyll, a tea-room, a weaving shop, a cobbler's, a chair maker's and, at one time, a home to a family of eight!

Those who love Ambleside in the Lake District in the North West of England will love to wear this design to show their love for all things Cumbria.

I had been in the English Lakes for a few days, but alas I needed to leave. With no desire to rush, I spent an hour or so walking the paths around Ambleside before getting back into my car. The Lake District was first settled thousands of years ago, Ambleside was a Roman fort town, so the sight of old stone walls shouldn't surprise you. The wall in this image isn't that old, but it does speak to the pastoral beauty of the national park. Here, on the edge of the town is a wonderful wall running across a field with a lovely mature tree standing by its side. Peace and tranquillity reign supreme.

Sheila’s Cottage is one of the oldest restaurants in Ambleside in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England. Like most of the buildings in the village, it is constructed from local slate. Sheila’s Cottage is tucked away down a narrow lane called The Slack in the centre of the village. I uploaded this image months ago. I always liked the shot, but it was ruined by the washed out sky. I thought I might try to improve the shot by adding a sky. I hope you like the effect.
