The Arno River crosses through the city of Florence/Firenze, in Italy. Across the Arno are several bridges, the most beautiful of all is Ponte Vecchio. Florence is the quintessential city reminiscent of the renaissance, home to favorites such as Dante, DaVinci, Michelangelo, the Medici, etc.

What is a trip to Florence without visiting the wonderful Ponte Vecchio. This extraordinary medieval bridge spans the Arno. Today, the bridge is reserved for just pedestrians, mainly tourists who stop to take pictures from the bridge and wander into the shops that reside there. It's quite the place.

The Ponte Vecchio (Italian for Old Bridge) is the most famous bridge in Florence, Italy. It is also the oldest, this structure with three stone arches replaced a wooden bridge which had crossed the Arno River at this spot since Roman times. The upper side of the bridge, known as the Vasariano corridor, was designed by Vasari to link the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace; today it is an art gallery.
