A shadow passed over head, it was big. I looked up to catch the graceful descent of a majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle. I followed and hoped I might just be lucky enough to see where she landed. Yes, slowly I move in. I was able to get quite close before she ruffled up her feathers to let me know that was close enough, come no further. Clearly a young bird, with those beautiful golden feathers.

"LBJ" That stands for Little Brown Job for you non birders. It is actually a little Tasmanian thornbill; they are only about 10cm long (beak to tail), very privileged that this little guy was so friendly and I got such a good look (and a few good reference photos for my painting).

I was riding through the Barossa valley, when I spotted two very colourful galahs sitting on top of the vines. I was sure they would fly off as soon as I got off my bike and pulled out my camera, but they didn’t. They were so “chilled out” they didn’t even move when a big vineyard truck came rumbling past.

This devoted little family disappeared into the background so effectively that I was almost nose to nose with them by the time I spotted them. In places it is difficult to tell where the birds end and the bush begins - a devoted discombobulation.

I was walking through the bush, when all of a sudden a Tawny Frogmouth resolved out the background. In this painting I aim to capture the effective camouflage of this amazing bird.

I didn't go out bird watching on this rainy day. Instead, the birds came to me; a family of blue-faced honeyeaters visited the banksia in my front garden. It really was "Sweet rain"

Whilst a little bit soggy, the rain really brought out the colours of this beautiful green rosella and the surrounding wattle seeds he was feasting on in the pouring rain.

This painting was inspired by the striking colours of a pair of rufous whistlers, and how despite this, they managed to camouflage so well in some dry Aussie bush. They are concealed, but revealed by their beautiful song.

The abstract nature of this painting aims to capture the cheeky and wild behaviour of this beautiful galah.
