The Record Bar is a former U.S. retail music/entertainment store chain founded in Durham, North Carolina. The company eventually grew from a single location to 180 stores. One of the largest music retailing chains, it was located primarily in the southeastern United States. From 1960 until the late 1980s, the owners were the (Barrie) Bergman family of Durham. In the mid-to-late 1980s, Record Bar began opening large new stores and remodeled Record Bar stores under the Tracks name, to better reflect the changes taking place in retail music merchandising.

Everyone had a favorite record store growing up and if you were in the greater Columbus area in Ohio, that store was without a doubt Buzzard's Nest Records. They weren't just a great record store that stocked all kinds of music, but an early example of going well beyond music with a large selection of posters, stickers, patches, shirts, and a little bit of everything a teen might need to trick out their room.

The roots of jazz run deep in Seattle culture. From the '20s through the '50s, the jazz scene flourished in nightclubs along Jackson Street, starting the careers of Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Ernestine Anderson, and many others. If you allowed yourself to follow the sound of these music legends, you'd end up at Bud's Jazz Records — where history could be heard and learned. Listen carefully, though, or you might pass this hidden repository that has been tucked away in a basement suite well below Jackson Street. Far from a polished mega-chain record store, Bud's was the real deal with literally stacks upon stacks of records and CD's that helps them live up to their tagline - Jazz in all it's forms.

Manny's Music Defunct Store New York City

Luckenbach Texas General Store and Saloon by Debra Martz Luckenbach, Texas is an unincorporated community just a 10 mile drive from the popular tourist town of Fredericksburg (which originated as a German community) in the Texas Hill Country. Luckenbach is known as a great venue for country music. It consists of 9.1 acres situated between 2 creeks. Its oldest building is a combination country general store and a saloon which opened in 1849. It is stated that the first name was Grape Creek but more than likely Gap Creek which comes from German ("lucken" meaning gap and "bach" meaning stream). Don't be fooled by the cute name — this New England–based chain had ties to the mob. Strawberries was opened and owned by Morris Levy, erstwhile owner of Manhattan's famed Birdland jazz club and president of the Roulette Records label. In 1988, Levy was convicted of extortion in Federal court. The FBI claimed he had ties to organized crime and drug dealers, but what do we know, we just did the hippie vibe of this t-shirt :)

Established in 1960, Tower Records was once a retail powerhouse with two hundred stores in thirty countries across five continents. From humble beginnings in a small-town drugstore, Tower eventually became the heart and soul of the music world, and a powerful force in the music industry. In 1999, Tower made a cool $1 billion, yet in 2006 the company filed for bankruptcy before slowly disintegrating before our collective eyes. This design is from the 30-year anniversary celebration of the iconic Sunset Strip location, which opened in 1971 on the northwest corner of Sunset Boulevard and Horn Avenue in West Hollywood. The Musicland Group, Inc. was an entertainment company that ran Musicland, Sam Goody, Discount Records, Suncoast Motion Picture Company, On Cue, and the Media Play Superstore Chains. The Musicland Group was purchased by Best Buy in 2001 at the height of Musicland's success, which ultimately led to its demise. Jack Eugster was the CEO of The Musicland Group, from 1980, until February 2001. Its headquarters were in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
