The Chatsubo was a bar for professional expatriates; you could drink there for a week and never hear two words in Japanese. Ratz was tending bar, his prosthetic arm jerking monotonously as he filled a tray of glasses with draft Kirin. He saw Case and smiled… - William Gibson – Neuromancer Okay. The Japanese is bad, call it deliberate. This is an ex-pats bar and well, Ratz – He don’t care much if his sign reads wrong in Japanese. ;)

The Chatsubo or Chat, is a bar in Ninsei of Chiba City, 2 block east of Jarre de Thé. The bartender was Ratz occasionally replaced by Kurt. Kirin and Tsingtao beer are served there. It was frequented by expatriates; there were almost no Japanese there. Figures seen there were African sailors, Lonny Zone's whores, Wage with his joeboys, and Case. On weeknights it attracted a dealing clientele. On Fridays and Saturdays it was flooded by sailors from the Chiba port and specialists preying on them. In Japanese, chatsubo (茶壺) means "tea bowl"

As i try to remain consistent with my "smile" series, i have been delving into the cyberpunk genre as of late, i'm still vague on the concept, but i have been inspired by books, movies, and games, most notable inspirations here are cyberpunk 2077 and Akira.

In Italy the third book of the Sprawl trilogy (the same that includes the most famous Neuromancer) is inexplicably called "Mona Lisa Cyberpunk" instead of "Mona LIsa Overdrive", so I thought of a double tribute to William Gibson and to the most waited title coming from the CD project RED: Cyberpunk 2077 (hang on, we are almost there!). Regarding the date: is thought that Leonardo da Vinci finished the Mona Lisa (aka: the Gioconda) around the early 1500s ... so why not 1507? ;-) There are a lot of details in it that I loved to do (go check the original!), so enjoy!!!
