The enclave of homes at Grimsby Beach on Lake Ontario, come in a rainbow of colours, including pink, green, yellow, blue and purple – sometimes all of them on the same house. The buildings date back to the late 1800s when they were first used as summer cottages.

Longyerbyen lies 650 miles from the North Pole in Svalbard. It was established as a mining community in 1906 by John Longyear and totally destroyed in WWII by the German Navy. It now has a population of just over 1,000 and relies mainly on scientific research and tourism although some mining and fishing are carried out. Only a small part of the population are long term residents with the average stay in the town being just over 6 years. Picture taken on 8th June 2023 in Longyearbyen town.

The sands of Mojácar Playa on the Almerian coast of Andalucia, Spain. Next to the beach are the white-painted shops, restaurants and houses which characterise this area. Tenby Sailing Club And Boats This stunning Town on the South West coast of Wales is the most colourful place I have seen, outside of Cuba. In fact there are many similarities to Cuba, the people are so nice and greeting, the colorful houses (although in better condition than Havana) are synonymous with Cuba. The sailing club sat on the harbour quay seems out of place in this scene with it looking so drab compared to the town houses above. This photograph is perfect for a puzzle or print. Petty Harbour is a small close-knit fishing community located on the Eastern coast of Newfoundland, not far from the town of St.John's. Although it still has a small population, it has grown considerably in the last 50 years, before which there were only a few families inhabiting the cove. The brightly coloured and smartly decorated houses show how proud the locals are of their home. Taken 8th October 2023 Nikon D780 & Nikon 28-300mm

Another picture painted from my 2019 trip to Tenby in Pembroekshire, Wales. This one shows the colourful houses up close along Crackwell Street. For reference, the harbour is off to the right out of shot. I've painted this in oil on a 16x16 inch board using a wet on wet technique, one section at a time - about 12 hours work altogether.

Nestled on the rugged coastline of Newfoundland, Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove beckons with its timeless charm. Quaint, colourful houses line the shore, reflecting the vibrant maritime culture. Looking out over the red tiled rooftops of Stavanger's Old Town - Gamle Stavanger. This district with its white-painted houses is the largest wooden city in northern Europe! Most of the houses date from the C18th and C19th. They were saved when after WWII it was decided to demolish most of them to be replaced by modern concrete buildings. However, the city's architect spoke against this plan saying they should be preserved and treasured,

Burano is a lovely little island close to Venice and it is famous for it's painted houses. Legend has it that the fishermens wives used to paint the outsides of their houses while their men were at sea, so that they would remember them and find their way home safely. It used to be a fishing and lace making island, but now it is more of a tourist attraction. As you can see, I went there on a rainy day, but it still had a lot of charm. Hartlepool is a seaside town in the North East of England. It was established in the 7th century and grew with the importance of shipbuilding in the North East. It was one of few towns in England that suffered from bombardment from the German fleet in the First World War, It now has a popular marina for leisure boating.
