The Power to Believe (King Crimson)

"Power to the people" is a cultural expression and political slogan that has been used in a wide variety of contexts. During the 1960s in the United States, young people began speaking and writing this phrase as a form of rebellion against what they perceived as the oppression by the older generation, especially The Establishment. The Black Panthers used the slogan "All Power to the People" to protest the rich, ruling class domination of society. Pro-democracy students used it to protest America's military campaign in Vietnam.

Founded in October of 1966 in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP) became the most famous black power organization of the late 1960s. Newton and Seale met in 1965 at Merritt College where they were exposed to a burgeoning wave of Black Nationalism, inspired in part by the Afro-American Association, established by Don Warden at the University of California, Berkeley in 1962. The raised fist remains a key part of their symbology, though it’s also evolved to be a symbol of standing up against the man for groups and causes of all races, so whether you’ve got a political cause in mind or are just into power fisting, this one is for you!

Mulder originally acquired his "I Want to Believe" poster from a head shop on M Street and hung it in his basement office back in March of 1992. This is my take on that now famous poster in shirt form, so don't stop believing. Or something. This version of the I Want to Believe design includes a nice fade and distressed treatment to give it a '90s survivor look. Trust no one.
