True to its name, the hotel - five minutes from the main A590 from the M6 - has a pitch-perfect position on the southern shores of Windermere with sweeping views over the lake and up to the summit of Gummer’s How opposite. Stepping distance away are: a landing stage for lake cruises to Bowness and Ambleside; the Lakes Aquarium; and the terminus of the Lakeside & Haverthwaite steam railway. Grizedale Forest, with a Go Ape course and mountain-biking trails, pretty Hawkshead and Beatrix Potter’s home, are around 20 minutes by car.
