U.S. Outpost #31 is a U.S. Antarctic research center which first appears in the 1982 film The Thing and is subsequently featured in the 2002 video-game of the same name and two Dark Horse comic-books - The Thing from Another World and The Thing from Another World: Questionable Research. The station is operated by the United States and is manned by a crew of twelve men.

The continent of Antarctica was discovered 200 years ago. It was the last region on Earth in recorded history to be discovered. This commemorative design celebrates that discovery. Sometimes called "the international continent", it is currently home to 70 research stations, representing 29 countries. The design will appeal to research scientists, geologists, oceanographers, physicists, astronomers, glaciologists, explorers, and meteorologists.

This was the ship we cruised Antarctica in, the mv Discovery. It was resting in Paradise Bay ( no anchor, as it had to move to avoid the larger icebergs !). A lovely looking ship, not too big, it featured in the tv series "The Love Boat" many years ago !
