The River Thames as it flows between the villages of Streatley in Berkshire, England to the south and Goring in Oxfordshire to the north. This is a break between the North Wessex (Berkshire) Downs and the Chiltern Hills known as the Goring Gap. This is the view looking west from the bridge. Moored on the left is one of the old Oxford College barges - now an events venue for the hotel on the river bank. To the right the Thames rushes over the weir, boats passing through the lock. This painting was done from a photo of a sunset at Table Rock Lake. I love sunsets and lakes so this was a blast for me to paint.

In the background is the Windsor Town Bridge which carries pedestrians and cyclists between the two towns and is a Grade 2 listed structure. Three boats on a Lake

The River Thames as it flows past the market town of Wallingford in Oxfordshire, England. This view is from the old bridge that links the town with the village of Crowmarsh Gifford. Wallingford is almost exactly half way between Reading and Oxford and the river here would once have been busy with commercial traffic travelling to and from from London to the east and, after 1789, from the north of England via the newly completed Oxford canal. The river is still busy but now with pleasure craft.

Palm trees and a vibrant sunset along the river. It's a special kind of serenity that should be enjoyed all year round.

An impressionist's view of a launch travelling up the River Thames passing the parish church at Bisham in Berkshire. The 12th century parish church of All Saints stands on the banks of the Thames and is next door to Bisham Abbey, the National Sports Centre. Unsurprisingly, racing boat crews can often be seen training on the Thames here. This launch might well have come from the nearby Buckinghamshire town of Marlow-on-Thames - just downstream.

Squeezing the Fun Out of the Day

Looking over the River Thames at Abingdon in Oxfordshire to the parish church of St Mary. Dating from the early C12th, it is notable for being the second widest church in England - having five aisles! Abingdon-on-Thames is a lovely ancient market town which although now in Oxfordshire was once the county town of Berkshire! From her the Thames makes its majestic way to Wallingford and from there to Reading before reaching London and ultimately the North Sea. This is a digital art image.

A pair of narrowboats heading upstream on the Thames and passing through Boulters Lock in Maidenhead, Berkshire.This historic lock was originally calles Ray Mill Lock after the watermill next door (now a restaurant), the first lock keeper being the miller's son John. The lock is probably best known through the painting 'Boulters Lock Sunday Afternoon' by Edward Joihn Gregory (1895) showing a mass of skiffs and punts heading into the lock chamber.

A boat named 'Snapdragon' moored at Goring-on-Thames - digital art developed from my original photograph. It's a late afternoon in August and the low sun lights up the scene just below the lock and weir. Here the Thames is passing through the Goring Gap - an opening between the Chiltern Hills and the North Wessex (Berkshire) Downs - before flowing past Pangbourne and Reading en route to London and the sea. Not surprisingly this area has been a haunt for artists - including JMW Turner!
