Heathland Silhouette Number of views as of 8th March 2018 = 590. A sunset silhouette on Canford Heath, Poole, Dorset (England). Continually under threat from fire, the heathland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to the smooth snake, sand lizard and Dartford warbler. Date: 6th November 2011.

Social Distancing, Canford Cliffs, Dorset, July 2020 People enjoying the sunshine on the beach at Canford Cliffs, Poole (Dorset, England). At least they seem to be observing the current social distancing rules. Hope they took their trash home with them too! On the horizon are 3 cruise ships moored in the bay, currently out of action due to the pandemic. If anyone from Carnival/P&O is reading this, can I have my money back soon please? The Dreadnought Number of views as of 28th May 2018 = 725. The Dreadnought is a Burrell Traction Engine, built in 1926 and delivered to I. Ball & Sons of Lancashire for sawing and threshing. Charles Burrell & Sons were builders of steam traction engines, agricultural machinery, steam trucks and steam tram engines. The company were based in Thetford, Norfolk but ceased trading in 1928. The Dreadnought is now owned by Breamore Countryside Museum, at Breamore House, near Fordingbridge in Hampshire. Ringwood Best Number of views as of 26th February 2018 = 1550. Two finely turned out Hampshire fillies head up this superb brewer's dray in Ringwood Brewery livery, pictured at the Bournemouth & Poole Preservation Club’s annual Steam & Vehicle Show at Canford Park Arena, Poole, Dorset, England. Could they be Forty Niner & Old Thumper I wonder? The shire horses are looking pretty good too! Once a common sight on the highways and by-ways of Britain, sadly shire horse numbers have decreased to the point where they are bordering on being an endangered species. Perhaps drinkers should insist that all beer is delivered in this fashion - this may secure the horse's future as well as being better for the environment and helping to nourish rose g...

The Golden Miles Number of views as of 10th July 2017 = 1100. The golden miles of sandy beach stretching from Sandbanks (Poole, Dorset, England) to Hengistbury Head (top right). This shot was taken from just west of Branksome Chine. Straight from the camera, no post-processing of any kind. Date: 29th September 2012.

Neptune's Lampshade Number of views as of 18th March 2017 = 340. A groyne marker on the beach at Canford Cliffs, between Poole and Bournemouth (Dorset, England). Stone or wooden groynes are placed at regular intervals along the coastline here to interrupt the water flow and prevent excessive movement of sand, basically to stop the beach being washed away by the tides. At high tide, the groynes are normally submerged and markers are placed like this one to mark the ends of the structure. It's quite unusual for the tide to be so far out as to reveal the whole of the marker. Date: 29th September 2012.

Frog Went a Courting Number of views as of 17th January 2018 = 1330. One Saturday in May 2010, I met up with RB members David Cross and Pat & Michael Tapping, who were over from South Australia. We spent a few hours in the picturesque setting of Compton Acres (Poole, Dorset), one of the finest privately owned gardens in Southern England. The weather was rather overcast and a little chilly for the time of the year (especially for those used to the warmer climes of South Aus). However, I'm sure we grabbed a few good shots between us. This shot of the Japanese garden with the Tea House in the background put me in mind of the traditional English folk song Frog Went a Courting, and he couldn't have found a more romantic setting for it! Poole & Purbeck Sunset Number of views as of 13th September 2018 = 4100. Number of sales as of 13th September 2018 = 3. At dusk on an autumn evening, the sun sets beyond the Purbeck hills and the lights begin to appear down in the town of Poole. Location: Canford Heath, Poole, Dorset, England. Camera: Canon EOS 400D + Canon EFS 18-55 mm lens. Date: 6th November 2011.

The Tea House, Compton Acres Number of views as of 18th July 2018 = 1380. Another shot of the Tea House in the Japanese Garden at Compton Acres, Poole, Dorset, England. Compton Acres was laid out in 1924, in a Victorian mixed style design with seven distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy, including the fine Japanese and Italian Gardens. The Japanese garden is superbly planted with and maintained, with stepping stones and bridges crossing the pond, where large koi swim close to the surface. Date: 8th May 2010. Italian Garden, Compton Acres Number of views as of 17th July 2018 = 760. Another shot from a mini 'Bubble Meet' in May 2010 at Compton Acres in Poole, Dorset, England. This one features the Petrified Naked Skateboarding championships, though the competitors seem to have lost their wheels. When it comes to photography, it's well documented that the size of your equipment doesn't matter, an opinion probably shared by the chap on the left! To be fair, there had been a sharp frost earlier in the week. Laid out by T.W.Simpson in the 1920s, Compton Acres is claimed to be one of the finest privately owned gardens in Southern England.
