The old Chemical beach of Seaham harbour, so named for the period that the chemical works were situated on the cliffs above the beach. Once the chemical waste was piped directly into the Seaham and other waste was carried along the beach on small rail carts - now all that remains are the remnants of the tracks and some old wagon wheels in the sea. A view across the Old Chemical Beach, passed Liddle Stack, over Noses Point, Seaham Harbour and off north to Sunderland. The Heritage Cost, has a number of little bays in the area, the beaches vary from rock and shingle to soft sand. Here the view is over the older beaches, that were used as a dumping ground for the waste materials of the mines and the chemical factory of Seahams industrial past. The wooden uprights show the route the old wagons took to the dumping areas. All cleaned now and beaches that have been awarded Blue Flag status.

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. The image was taken on a cold, clear December morning just after sunrise with a golden sky reflecting on the still, calm North Sea. Not a bad start to a winter's day!
