The enterprise that eventually came to be known as the Rocky Mountain Fur Company, was established in St. Louis, Missouri in 1822 by William Henry Ashley and Andrew Henry. Among the original employees, known as "Ashley's Hundred", was Jedediah Smith, who went on to take a leading role in the company's operations and Jim Bridger, who was among those that bought out Smith and his partners in 1830. It was Bridger and his partners that gave the enterprise the name "Rocky Mountain Fur Company."

Photograph Stained glass window from the West Kirk Church in East Kilbride commemorating the death of 28 year old Hugh Barr, Second Lieutenant, Royal Scots Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) who died on 30 September 1918 at Wervicq, Flanders during World War One. The window was designed by Miss Chilton RSWA, London, was completed by Abbey Studio in Glasgow and was installed in the West Kirk in January 1921. The top inscription reads : Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.  The bottom inscription reads:-  In loving memory of Sec. Lieut.
