This view comes from when I walked this section of the SW coast path along the Devon coast near Torbay, some years ago now. I had just passed Quarry Point at Babbacombe (the rock in the painting), and came to this gap in the trees where I could look back. It was a hot summer's day, and it looked like some faraway shore. Oldway Mansion is a large house and gardens in Paignton, Devon, England. It was built as a private residence for Isaac Merritt Singer (1811–1875), and rebuilt by his third son Paris Singer in the style of the Palace of Versailles.

Elberry Cove Elberry (or Elbury) Cove is a small, sheltered spot, reached by following the South West Coast Path between Paignton and Brixham (South Devon, England). At the far end of the shingle beach are the ruins of Elberry bathhouse, built in the 18th century for Lord Churston, so that he could indulge in sea water bathing whilst still preserving his dignity! Elberry is a crime scene in one of Agatha Christie's novels, The ABC Murders. The author spent much of her life in this area. Date: 22nd October 2016. Click here to see my Devon gallery.
