One of the biggest "Monitor Lizards" on the island can often be mistaken locally as the Komodo Dragon... Hardly surprising really considering that they are so closely related! Being very good swimmers and with the 'Islands of Komodo' being not that far away ~ it is certainly plausible that Komodoensis "is indeed" upon the Island of Borneo. Only reptilian biologists and experts using 'genetic sampling methods' ~ could really dispel this 'hypothesis'. *Might Komodoensis actually be on the Island of Borneo!!?!* We must not 'rule out the thought' as many scientific ideas have modified over time and been rewritten as 'new discoveries' ~ are made almost daily!

Varanus giganteus

When I first took this photo, some months ago... I first thought that this monitor lizard was peculiarly sticking his head down the drain to forage for ants, or access freshwater after the rains. After a minute or so I realised that the life of this creature had quite literally drained away... yet it looked so perfectly poised and almost alive. I continued my journey onwards and later returned to see that, still there was no movement. Maybe it had just got trapped or been bitten by a deadly poisonous snake which we sometimes find in the area...? For whatever reason it was, in a strange way it makes 'a perfectly abstract' photo ~ hopefully not too objectionable!
