Viceroy Butterfly Long Sleeve T-Shirts

Digital Art from my watercolor batik painting of a Viceroy Butterfly on Queen Anne's Lace, black and white and orange image. Several years ago, I painted this Viceroy butterfly from a reference photo (see below) as one of a series that I used in a calendar. Using Photoshop, I converted the color painting (elsewhere on my gallery) to a black and white image and allowed the butterfly to retain her brilliant, deep, orange reds. I found this photo on a reference photo site called pmp-art.com. The Viceroy butterfly is an interesting creature, mimicking the coloration of the Monarch butterfly almost perfectly as a protection against predators, primarily birds. As children, my brother and I were fascinated with butterflies, moths, and other insects and had many reference books about them. One Field Guide to Butterflies (if I remember the title correctly) was a well-loved, well-thumbed paperback handbook about North American butterflies. The page about the Viceroy stated that Viceroys took on the coloration of Monarchs because Monarchs are bitter and the birds avoid them; Viceroys apparently taste good to birds, so they evolved a coloration that protects them. Beautiful Viceroy Butterfly

The striking bombay viceroy catterfly, or cat butterfly, has a glossy black coat and vibrant orange, black and white wings. While often mistaken for the monarch flitter kitty, the bombay viceroy has a distinctive black line which cuts across its hindwing. In contrast, this species is also smaller and has no white spots on its body.
