The 1st Engineer Battalion is a unit of the United States Army with a record of accomplishment in both peace and war; an organization that provides sustained engineer support across the full spectrum of military operations. The 1st Engineer Battalion is the oldest and most decorated engineer battalion in the US Army, tracing its lineage to the original Company of Sappers and Miners organized at West Point, New York in 1846. On 5 July 1950, the 17th Signal Operation Battalion was activated in Germany (through a reorganization of the 7776 Signal Company in Karlsruhe [1][2]). The unit was allotted to the Regular Army on 15 December 1950. The Battalion was reorganized and redesignated on 20 October 1953 as the 17th Signal Battalion (Op). The 17th Sig Bn (Op) provided command operations signal support. The 17th Sig Bn was inactivated on 25 September 1965 in Germany. The Battalion's mission was to provide Command and Control Communications to the V Corps Commanding General and subordinate units. In December of 1992 the Battalion moved to Larson Barracks in Kitzingen, Germany.

The 81st Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. 1st Battalion, 81st Field Artillery Regiment. The 1st Missile Battalion, 81st Artillery was formed at Fort Sill in 1963 and deployed to McCully Barracks in Wackernheim, West Germany under the 56th Field Artillery Group. The battalion moved to Wiley Barracks, Neu-Ulm in 1968 and was redesignated the 1st Battalion, 81st Field Artillery Regiment effective 1 September 1971. It was initially equipped with eight Pershing 1 missiles and in 1969 replaced these with 36 Pershing 1a missiles. Service Battery was inactivated and reflagged as B Company, 55th Maintenance Battalion in 1982.

The 21st Engineer Battalion is a provisional engineer battalion that was organized in Washington, D.C. on December 31, 1861. It was established on July 28, 1866 as the Battalion of Engineers, and expanded from March 14 to June 7, 1901 to form the 1st and 2d Battalions of Engineers Activated 1 May 1966 at West Point, New York Inactivated 16 October 2007 at West Point, New York Assigned 16 April 2014 to the 3d Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, and activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

The battalion was expanded August 1916 and reorganized as the 3rd Engineer Regiment with portions of it in the Philippines, Hawaii and Panama. In July 1950 the battalion moved to Korea to serve in the Korean campaign with the 24th Infantry Division. 3rd Engineer battalion is responsible for improving most major thoroughfares and bridging most rivers in Korea. The battalion stayed in Korea until November 1953. In 1990 for Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, as well as deployed with the 10th Mt division to Somalia in 1993.
