Scissor-tailed FlycatchJust as I turned off Oklahoma hwy 38 onto the gravel road that leads to the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, I had the treat of Scissortails on both side of the road. I preferred this side with the golden fall grasses as a backdrop as the other side they were on power lines. They are the Oklahoma State Bird yet they are also a migratory bird and will be heading south soon. Grand Depart Pays Basque 2023

There is an auto tour drive through a portion of the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge with a number of marshes along the way. Several pullouts allow you to stop and view. Normally are more waterfowl at this area in the winter but today only two American Coots that turned and swam away. This area is located between Intermediate Marsh and Mink Run Marsh. It is not every day that you see them catch a fish of this size. And gulls will be gulls as they try and steal others catches. Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17. Artwork of US and NASA astronaut Eugene Cernan (1934-2017) saluting the US flag (Lunar Flag Assembly) left on the Moon during the Apollo 17 mission. The flag had a horizontal strut to support it on the airless Moon. This mission, the last Apollo mission, landed in the Taurus-Littrow region of the Moon. Cernan's co-lander was US astronaut Harrison Schmitt. They explored the area for three days (11-14 December 1972). Cernan was the last person to walk on the Moon. His departing words were: 'we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17'.
