Fortnox Magnets

Based in Georgia in the 80s, Fortnox could be described a storming power trio led by guitarist/vocalist Rick Fowler, who were signed to Epic records. In an enterprising move the label hooked them up with up with Chris Tsangarides (Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy) who took control of recording the band's sole album, in Atlanta. The results were remarkably impressive, leaving those who heard the recordings to predict big things for the band. The album received positive reviews but despite extensive touring, playing with the likes of Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and April Wine, support from the label began to dwindle, leaving the band vulnerable to forces beyond their control. WHAT IF THEY WOULD HAVE MADE IT and been honored on the HWOF?

In 1982, Atlanta-area band Fortnox reached #44 in US airplay and the Top Twenty on MTV with their song Storm Inside My Head (Epic Records). Fortnox toured constantly for over a year, often performing in stadiums as the supporting act for top rock artists such as Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, George Thorogood and The Ramones. In 1984, Rick’s band Bombay recorded with legendary British producer Eddy Offord (Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, others). The video from the album (Rumble Tonight) was featured on MTV.

This great Atlanta-area rock band in the '80s featured David Blackmon on vocals, Dennie Bishop on guitar, Randy Hall on bass, Paul Nutall on keyboards and the LEGENDARY Thomas Carr on drums!

The now defunct WKLS 96 Rock in Atlanta was the go-to place for PURE rock and roll! Homecookin' II (released in 1981) was the second of 4 albums of music by Atlanta area artists like Fortnox, Illusion, Dreamer, Billy the Kidd, Bert Elliot's Chances, The Sockets, Metalworks, Public Enemy, Frank Furter & the Human Beans, Buddy Causey & the Handsome White Boys, Heathen Girls and John Diazo & the Duplicators. This album was sold exclusively at Turtle's Records and Tapes.

The now defunct WKLS 96 Rock in Atlanta was the go-to place for PURE rock and roll! Homecookin' Live was WKLS's early version of what is now known as American Idol; except they did it with bands!
