During the nesting season Bass Rock in the North Sea has one of the largest nesting colonies of Gannets in the world. There are usually more than 150,000 birds there and from the mainland the Rock looks white because of the sheer numbers. They nest very close together and there are always birds circling above either coming or going from the sea where they dive for fish. The lighthouse was built in 1902 and is operated remotely as the island is uninhabited, except for the birds and a few seals. I was very lucky to be able to visit there as numbers are strictly controlled and in bad weather you can't land there anyway. The northern gannet is a fabulous seabird to watch as it dives vertically into the sea at speeds of up to 62 mph to feed on mackerel and herring. They thrive in large colonies located on cliffs overlooking the ocean or on small, elevated rock islands. This photograph was taken along the Atlantic seaboard in the gannet's non-breeding range.

Gannets usually pair up for life and they have some endearing courtship rituals, like clicking their beaks together or bringing each other gifts like food, feathers or in this case a bunch of seaweed. Edited in Photoshop CC and Topaz Studio. See more at brian-tarr.pixels.com

Have you ever wondered how graffiti suddenly appears overnight on a wall? In some cases it can also disappear, as has happened with some of Banksy's graffiti masterpieces. Anyway I got to thinking about it and thought it would be great if you could just order your Special Edition graffiti via Red Bubble and place it on your chosen wall. I found this little chap in part of a large work on a house wall in Blackpool, it was drawn by a Croatian artist called Lonac for a special Graffiti Event and I couldn't resist taking a photo of it. He was originally being carried by flying clocks against a plain white background, but I have substituted them for some photos of gannets and added a nice sky in Photoshop.
