An extremely reactive compound capable of igniting many otherwise non-flammable materials without any ignition source.

Halogens. Three halogen elements, from left to right: chlorine (Cl2), bromine (Br2) and iodine (I2). These are toxic and reactive non-metals. Chlorine is a gas at room temperature. It was used as a chemical weapon during World War One. Bromine is a dark liquid at room temperature, although it readily produces a brown vapour. Iodine is a crystalline solid.

Chlorine is an important part of table salt (NaCl), and is also used for disinfecting, cleaning, and other purposes. Chlorine can be both useful and deadly. In fact, modern chemical warfare probably started with Fritz Haber's use of chlorine gasses as a weapon during WWI.

Tennessine is part of the Halogen family. Oak Ridge National Laboratory provided the Berkelium (element 97) to Russia where it was deposited on a film of titanium and blasted by a beam of Calcium (element 20). Tennessine (element 97+20=117) was discovered through teamwork, sharing, and collaboration.

Isotope 127 is the stable iodine normally used for healthy thyroid functioning. Iodine 127 is often found in seafood and table salts with the iodized label. Nuclear disasters can release unstable iodine isotope 131 into the air and soil, increasing the chances of thyroid cancer, especially for those who were young during the exposure. This is why potassium iodide tablets are often made available to people who live near nuclear plants.
