Description: For 1971, Ford's pony car featured bold new sheet metal and interior and chassis refinements, and it had grown. The front wheels were moved 1 inch forward, and the front track was increased 3 inches to more easily accept the 429 engines. The rear track was widened 2.5 inches, and the body was about 2.1 inches longer and 2.4 inches wider than the 1970 Mustangs. The Mach 1's base price of $3,268 included a 302-2V engine, three-speed manual transmission, Competition Suspension, and E70-14 Wide Oval tires. Exterior enhancements consisted of a color-keyed front bumper and fender and hood edge moldings, honeycomb-pattern grille with sport lamps added, non-functional hood scoops and dual color-keyed racing mirrors.
