It's a damp misty autumn day on the North Yorkshire Moors as LMS Black 5 "Eric Treacy" leaves Goathland with a full head of steam! The Black Fives were a mixed traffic locomotive, a "do-anything go-anywhere" type, designed by William Stanier and several members of the class survived to the last day of steam on British Railways in 1968, with eighteen of the type making it into preservation.

David Is a Werewolf

The Two Moors Way is a long-distance path that runs from Ivybridge in South Devon to Lynmouth on the coast of North Devon, crossing parts of both Dartmoor and Exmoor (and passing into Somerset) along the way. The total length of the trail is about 103 miles (166 km), and some sections are difficult in poor weather.

This design is from a painting I did in watercolour pencils. It shows two of the most famous natural rock formations in the Peak District Natural Park in the UK. These are the Crow Stones and the Rocking Stones, and they are on the less-trodden area of Howden Moors. Not so many of the hikers in the PDNP visit them. In the summer, the moors are purple with heather. The original is on A3 textured vifArt watercolour paper in Staedtler karat aquarell.

The Yorkshire Moors Sheep On The Purple Heather A lone tree and the marked sheep feed between the heather plants on the Yorkshire Moors in England. It takes a special kind of plant to thrive in moorland areas, where the weather is often cold, wet and windy. Heather – an evergreen shrub with twiggy stems – covers our open moorland. Usually lots of heather plants grow together, forming a thick, bushy carpet, sometimes up to half a metre tall. This helps the plant to survive strong winds. Heather also has tiny, narrow leaves shaped like the needles on a Christmas tree, which stop the plant from losing too much water as the winds blow across the moors.
