River Deben Magnets

A scene captured late in the afternoon on the River Deben near Woodbridge in Suffolk with an impressionist finish. This is the tidal stretch of the river which flows on to meet the North Sea at Felixtowe. Not only popular as a centre for watersports, particularly sailing and canoeing, this is an important ecological area - designated as a RAMSAR site (protected wetland) and an AONB (Area of Outsrtanding Natural beauty. A riverside path leads into the town of Woodbridge and its quayside.

It operated until 1957 sfter which it became derelict. However, following subsequent restoration it was re-opened in 1973.

*Felixstowe Ferry* Number of views as of 4th May 2017 = 390. Felixstowe Ferry is a small hamlet a couple of miles north of the main town of Felixstowe (Suffolk, England). A ferry boat carries passengers across the River Deben to Bawdsey on the opposite bank. Freshly caught fish is usually available from the quayside. Date: 30th July 2013.

Woodbridge Tide Mill Number of views as of 11th July 2017 = 400. There has been a tide mill here at Woodbridge (Suffolk) on the River Deben for over 800 years. The present structure was built in 1793 and by the 1950s it had become the last working tide mill in England. It finally closed in 1957, but was restored and opened to the public in 1973. Date: 29th July 2013.
