I didn't quite make it down to the coast for the first sunrise of the new year, but I didn't wait long to catch a sunrise in 2016. I've never been to this spot on Miami Beach before, so it was a great new spot to start a new year of shooting.

Cyclone Winston has created a massive swell all along the eastern Australian coastline this week, so the surfers were out in force on Thursday morning when we headed down the Gold Coast to shoot sunrise (so much so that we struggled to get a parking spot at 5am). It was a struggle as we shot sunrise at Burleigh Heads on this Saturday morning in April -- should we take photos of the brilliant orange sunrise, or look in the opposite direction and shoot the crazy cloud descending over Surfers Paradise? In the end, we got a few of both...and I'm really happy I turned away from the sunrise for a little bit, since you don't see clouds like this every day. It reminded me of the one of the alien ships from Independence Day -- but luckily it didn't stop over Q1 and spectacularly blow it up!

When I headed down to the small town of Laurieton in New South Wales' Mid North Coast a few weeks ago, I knew I had to make it out to the beach for at least one sunrise. While the colours weren't spectacular, the sunrise and the early morning golden light still did not disappoint as I wandered along the rocky edge of the beach at Camden Head.
