Camp Toccoa was a United States Army paratrooper training camp during World War II five miles west of Toccoa, Georgia. Constructed beginning January 1940. The U.S. Army took over the site in 1942.

Scarlet and yellow are the colors traditionally used by Field Artillery. The field piece is adapted from the Field Artillery insignia of branch. The scarlet indented bar divides the background into two sections denoting military preparedness on all fronts. The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 December 1997, consisting of a black arrowhead bearing a gold fleur-de-lis and flanked by two gold field pieces conjoined at top and all enclosed in base by a red wavy scroll inscribed "TO THE GUNS" in gold. Scarlet and yellow/gold are the colors traditionally used by artillery.

The corps is designed for rapid deployment anywhere in the world and is referred to as "America's Contingency Corps." Its headquarters are at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. XVIII Airborne Corps returned to Fort Liberty in October 2022 after a nine month deployment to Germany, in support of NATO and European Allies and partners.The mission was to provide a joint task force-capable headquarters in light of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The 106th Infantry Division was a division of the United States Army formed for service during World War II. Two of its three regiments were overrun and surrounded in the initial days of the Battle of the Bulge, and they were forced to surrender to German forces on 19 December 1944. The division was never officially added to the troop list following the war, despite having been almost completely organized in Puerto Rico by 1948; subsequently, the War Department determined the division was not needed and inactivated the division headquarters in 1950. Arizona was hit by Japanese torpedo bombers during the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. After one of their bombs detonated in a magazine, she exploded violently and sank, with the loss of 1,177 officers and crewmen. Unlike many of the other ships sunk or damaged that day, Arizona was irreparably damaged by the force of the magazine explosion. The wreck still lies at the bottom of Pearl Harbor beneath the USS Arizona Memorial

The 52nd Infantry Regiment ("Ready Rifles") is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The charges on the canton of the regiment's coat of arms represent the 11th Infantry from which this regiment was formed in 1917. Its first combat service was in World War I in the Gerardmer Sector in Alsace, a short distance west of Colmar. The bend from the arms of Alsace has been charged with the 6th Division shoulder sleeve insignia to show that the regiment was with that division in France. The coat of arms was originally approved for the 52d Infantry Regiment on 29 June 1921. It was redesignated for the 52d Armored Infantry Regiment on 29 September 1942.
