The Kapali Carsi of Kayseri, is the 4th biggest covered marked in Turkey. Not as "touristic" as the Kapali Carsi of Istanbul, it is used mostly by the locals. It took its present form in 1853. It is "attached" to an older market, the Bedesten of Kayseri. Camera: Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

A collage of beautiful doors from Sinasos town (Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Central Anatolia, Turkey). All of them (except one, the second from left to right, on the second row) belong to old Greek houses. Once upon a time Sinasos, nowadays called Mustafapasa, was sort of unofficial "capital" of the Greek population of Cappadocia. The Orthodox/Greeks that had been living for centuries in that region, where sent to Greece in 1923-24, being part of the exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece, according to the Treaty of Laussane. The same thing happened the other way around, with the Muslim/Turks that had been living for centuries in Greek Territory, which took the road to Turkey. Photo taken in Love Valley (Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Turkey) famous for its impessive rocks in phallic shapes. Cappadocia and its impressive landscapes are declared World Heritage Site by Unesco. About the "philosofical" question of the title: It seems that it's a subject troubling more the gentlemen than the ladies, because it seems that ladies already know the answer!

One of the most beautiful rock cut churches in Cappadocia, a real "trademark" of this magnificent region, this cap shaped rock is known by the strange name "El Nazar". It was a Greek-Orthodox church some centuries ago. It is situated in the El Nazar valley, about 800m to the right from the road to the Goreme Open air museum. The floor has been completely destroyed, as has part of the apse. The frescoes show scenes which follow each other in chronological order. This church can be dated to the end of the 10th century.

The twin valleys of Soganli (Asagi Soganli & Yukari Soganli) are the southeast corner of the imaginary triangle that forms Cappadocia. Although in the southwest "edge" of Kayseri Prefecture, it's very close to the "borders" with Nevsehir Prefecture, not very far from the "heart" of Cappadocia (Central Anatolia, Turkey), but still far enough, for most of the tourists, so you will have the chance to explore the 2 valleys of Soganli, practically "alone". Inside the valleys, a researcher, called Anastasios Levidis, counted 360 rock-cut byzantine churches, not carved in the slopes of the valleys, but "inside" some rocky cones. If your "base" is somewhere around Goreme, Urgup or Mustafapasa (Sinassos), you'll have to drive 36 km south of Si...

This is part of the path that leads to Selime monastery (Aksaray, Cappadocia, Turkey) , going up a steep hillside, that it's an atraction of its own! Here you see one of the many tunnels with carved stairs leading to the monastic complex. In the background, through the hole, you can see part of the fascade from one of the many rock cut cave-churches of the monastery. The region of Cappadocia is a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

That was the view from my room in a beautiful cave hotel in Ayvali (Nevsehir, Cappadocia, Turkey). Ayvali is a small but beautiful village, very close to famous Sinassos (Mustafapasa) town. The hotel was located inside a small gorge, where a very old Greek-Orthodox Monastery used to be (yes, inside these "cavehouses" that you see in the photo).
