Overwatch is a force protection tactic in modern warfare where a sniper supports units executing fire and movement tactics. An overwatching Sniper takes a position where he or she can observe the terrain ahead, especially likely enemy positions. This allows the sniper to provide effective covering fire for advancing friendly units.

The 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment transitioned to Fort Campbell, KY in early spring 2006 and were reflagged as 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment on 10 April 2006 being officially re-activated as part of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky on 16 June 2006.

The mission of the 2nd Battalion (Assault), 2nd Aviation Regiment, is to, on order, transition to war and conduct air assault and general support aviation operations in support of the 2nd Infantry Division and Combined Forces Command. Prior to the reorganization of the 2nd Infantry Division's Aviation Brigade and the formation of the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade as the sole aviation element to support by the 2nd Infantry Division and the Eighth US Army, 2-2nd Aviation's mission had been the same, except only in support of the 2nd Infantry Division.

In 1965, the concept of helicopter-borne fighting forces was still new and largely untested, and units in Vietnam invented tactics on the spot. The U.S. Army began to use Bell OH-13 Sioux and Hiller OH-23 Raven helicopters, once artillery spotters, to scout ahead of UH-1D Huey formations in the moments before air assaults to gather information about landing zones and enemy locations.

Hunter killer operations are prolonged operations conducted in irregular warfare by a unique and specifically organized force, in conjunction with an indigenous force, against irregular warfare adversaries by operating behind the lines or in hostile areas.

the 6th Bomb Group and to those who supported them in the field and at home. The Group was based on the island of Tinian during WWII and participated in the war effort against Japan during 1944-45. The Group, was part of the 313th Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force. Along with other groups based on Tinian, Saipan and Guam, they were responsible for the bombing campaign that finally brought an end to the war. Although many lives were lost - on both sides - these efforts saved the millions of lives that would have been lost in an invasion of the mainland.

he 1st Armored Division under the Army's new modular force structure, the Aviation Brigade was redesignated and reactivated as the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division. Prior to the modular reorganization, the Brigade was also known as 4th Brigade (Aviation), 1st Armored Division. During the 1st Armored Division's time in Germany, the 4th Brigade was headquartered in Hanau. The 4th Brigade had also been headquartered at in Katterbach, Germany for a time. However, the Brigade's footprint included multiple kasernes throughout the Ansbach and Illesheim communities, all the nestled in the hills of Bavaria. Its maneuver units were the 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation (Hanau); 2nd Battalion, 501st Aviation (Hanau).
