Sojutsu : the art of fighting with a spear (Yari). Samurai warriors had to be fluent in fighting with many types of weapons beside katana. Yari, or (spear) and Naginata (halberd) allowed you to keep an opponent at distance where he could not use his sword. This drawing is inspired byt a manga by the famous 19th century artist Hokusai.
