The name refers to the hemispherical cylinder head or hemi-head, while the 426 was from the 2nd generation of engines released in the mid 1960s that displaced 426 cu in (7.0 L). It was used in classic muscle cars like the Charger, the Challenger, Barracda ('Cuda), Daytona and Super Bee that today can sell for millions of dollars. Distressed for a vintage/retro look.

He received his master’s degree from Penn State and later earned a master’s degree in automotive engineering from the University of Michigan while working for Chrysler.
