Mars Bar Mugs
Description: Mars Bar — a dirty, dingy saloon famous for cheap brew, punk rock and it's lack of toilet paper — might have been a dark and narrow room full of mismatched broken stools and dodgy paintings. But it was also considered the last of it's kind in the East Village. Graffiti on the walls, cockroaches, drug deals, a bathroom that made the one in TRAINSPOTTING look like the Ritz Carlton, a hand-painted sign that constantly had to be redone, and staff that might assault and spit in you if you ordered the wrong thing, it could be scary for the uninitiated. But there was a killer jukebox, stiff shots, and you'd always go home with a story to tell. It had an authenticity that doesn't exist in NY anymore, and is sorely missed.
