A view from just below the bridge of the River Thames as it flows past Abingdon, Oxfordshire, on its way to Reading and London. Here the spire of St Helen's church dominates the scene - a well known landmark to users of the Thames. It inspired the artist JMW Turner who featured ii in a painting called 'Abningdon'. This ancient town is now in Oxfordshire although until relatively recently it was in Berkshire and was at one time the county town. Here is a popular mooring place for Thames boaters. This is a side view of the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. It is one of the most notable and most recognizable structures in Paris. Produced in the style of a chalk drawing, cows and their calves quietly grazing on the green grass of the water meadows outside the walls of St Cross Hospital. This lovely old building stands near Winchester, Hampshire - its almshouses providing accommodation fror 25 elderly men. Rising above is the magnificent Norman tower of the church, echoing that of Winchester Cathedral just a short distance away.

The old abbey buildings at Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. This view is of the Checker with its distinctive chimney. This building dates from about the 1260s and is the oldest surviving part of the abbey buildings. The abbey was first founded in the C7th but in the C9th was destroyed by the Danes. Rebuilt, it came to prominence in C10th and at the time of Henry VIII's Dissolution, the abbey was reckoned to be the sixth of the richest in England. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

The Abbey Church of St Peter and St Paul in the village of Dorchester-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. It is also the village's parish church. This beautiful old church has a long history, originally dating back to AD635. However, the Abbey itself was founded in 1140, built by an Order of Augustinian Canons. Its medieval heritage is seen inside - particularly by an effigy of a knight. A Jesse window's stone tracery depicts the stem of Jesse and is a feature of the building.

The Norman keep of Richmond's castle towering abouve the rooftops of the neighbouring buildings. The castle is in the centre of the town of Richmond in North Yorkshire and dominates its surroundings. Constructed by Alan Rufus, a Norman, in 1071, the castle was intended as a defence against insurrection in the North. This 100 foot high keep was added in the C12th by Duke Conan of Brittany. The castle was apparently derelict by 1540 but was repaired in the 1800s due to the rise in tourism. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200
