His new ukiyo-e style was completely different from Hokusai, or Hiroshige, old style ukiyo-e and it was almost like looking at an action comic. The character in this art is Taira no Tomomori who committed suicide in the ocean after he lost battle. This is the scene he came back from the ocean as a ghost with a demon skull.
