The New York Raiders were an ice hockey team and founding member of the World Hockey Association based in New York City. Intended to be the WHA's flagship franchise, its short lifespan was a result of being unable to compete with the National Hockey League's established New York Rangers, and the expansion New York Islanders. After its inaugural season, the team was known as the New York Golden Blades and eventually relocated to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, becoming the Jersey Knights.

The Baltimore Claws was an American basketball team which was supposed to appear in the 1975–76 season in the American Basketball Association. The team collapsed before the season started, playing only three exhibition games, all losses, in its brief history. The team that eventually became the Baltimore Claws had earlier competed in the ABA as the New Orleans Buccaneers from 1967 through 1970, as the Memphis Pros from 1970 through 1972, as the Memphis Tams from 1972 through 1974 and as the Memphis Sounds during the 1974–75 season.

The Rochester Renegade (later Rochester Renegades) were a professional basketball team based in Rochester, Minnesota. They played 2 seasons in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), the defunct development league for the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Bay State Bombardiers were a short-lived minor league basketball club in the Continental Basketball Association (1978-2009). The CBA was the official developmental league of the NBA during the 1980’s and 1990’s. The team originated in Bangor, Maine as the Maine Lumberjacks (1978-1983). The club moved south in March 1983 when Lumberjacks investor John Ligums relocated the team to Brockton, Massachusetts, twenty minutes south of his home in the tony Boston suburb of Milton.

The Tampa Bay Bandits was a professional American football team in the United States Football League (USFL) which was based in Tampa, Florida. The Bandits were a charter member of the USFL. The Bandits were one of the most successful teams in the short-lived spring football league both on the field and at the ticket booth. However, the franchise folded along with the rest of the USFL when the league suspended play after the 1985 season.

The New York Centaurs were an A-League professional soccer club in the United Soccer League, based in New York City. The team played only one season in 1995. The New York Fever of the USISL Pro League, debuted in 1994, playing two seasons in the league before merging with the Centaurs organization in 1996. The unified New York Fever team competed in one season in the A-League in 1996 before folding.

They played at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, Colorado. The Mavericks were an expansion team and recruited most of its players at colleges in Colorado. The IHL pulled the franchise from the original owners, Mile High Hockey Inc., and gave it to a Denver group headed by David M. Segal. The new ownership refinanced the team, but the changes did not solve the team's financial problems. On December 3, 1959, the team moved becoming the Minneapolis Millers. The Mavericks were in Denver for only 34 days, and finished their tenure in Denver with a 10–8 record.

The Nashville Stars was a professional basketball franchise based in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1991. The team played its inaugural season in the World Basketball League (WBL) before folding. The Stars played their home games at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The franchise was originally known as the Las Vegas Silver Streaks (1988–1990) before relocating for the 1991 season.

The Philadelphia Blazers were an ice hockey franchise in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the 1972–73 WHA season based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Cincinnati Tigers were a minor league ice hockey team in the Central Hockey League during the 1981–82 season. They played in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Riverfront Coliseum. The team was owned and operated by Maple Leaf Gardens Limited, and served as a farm team for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team averaged only 1,500 fans and lost $750,000 in their first season, leading the Leafs to dissolve the Tigers in the spring of 1982. Shortly thereafter, with Chicago having pulled out of New Brunswick in favor of affiliating with the Springfield Indians on their own, the Leafs relocated the New Brunswick Hawks to St. Catharines, Ontario to establish the St. Catharines Saints as their farm team.

During the 1978/79 season, the team moved to Utica and became the Mohawk Valley Thunderbirds. Ran out of money and eventually folded.

The Indianapolis Daredevils, known officially as the Indy Daredevils, was an American soccer club based in Indianapolis, Indiana that was a member of the American Soccer League from 1987 to 1979. The team's home field was the Butler Bowl at Butler University.

The Toronto Huskies were a team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which was a forerunner of the National Basketball Association (NBA), during the 1946–47 season. They were based in Toronto, Ontario. The team compiled a 22–38 win–loss record in its only season before formally disbanding in the summer of 1947.

Bringing football to the world. The World Football League (WFL) was a short-lived American football league that played in 1974 and part of 1975. Although the league's proclaimed ambition was to bring American football onto a worldwide stage, the farthest the WFL reached was placing a team – the Hawaiians – in Honolulu, Hawaii. The league folded midway through its second season, in 1975.

The Denver Avalanche was an American soccer team based out of Denver, Colorado that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League from 1980 to 1982. Their home arena was McNichols Sports Arena.

The Anaheim Amigos were a charter member American Basketball Association (ABA) team based in Southern California. After their first season in Anaheim, the team moved to Los Angeles to become the Los Angeles Stars. In 1970, it moved to Salt Lake City and became the Utah Stars. The Amigos were the first professional team in any sport to bill themselves as representing the city of Anaheim, California, and were the only team to do so until the National Hockey League's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim began play in 1993. The California Angels of Major League Baseball played at Anaheim Stadium during the Amigos' existence, but they would not use "Anaheim" in their name until 1997.

The Oakland Clippers were one of ten founding franchises in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) of 1967. The team was initially known as the California Clippers when the NPSL kicked off in the spring of 1967, then switched to the Oakland Clippers moniker midway through the season. The team closed its doors after its second season.

The Washington Lumberjacks was a WBA Basketball team based in the Tri-Cities region (Kennewick, Pasco & Richland) of Washington state. The Western Basketball Association was a one-year effort to create a Western counterpart & competitor to the country’s top minor basketball league, the Pennsylvania-based Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The WBA began play in the fall of 1978 with seven teams in Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Washington. All WBA franchises, including the Lumberjacks, folded during the summer of 1979.

The Pittsburgh Condors were a professional basketball team in the original American Basketball Association from 1971-72. Originally called the Pittsburgh Pipers, they were a charter franchise of the ABA and captured the first league title. The team played their home games in Pittsburgh's Civic Arena.

The Las Vegas Americans were a soccer team based out of Las Vegas that played in the original Major Indoor Soccer League. Prior to Las Vegas, the team had operated as the Memphis Americans. They only played in Las Vegas during the 1984–85 season and lost in the first round of the playoffs that year. The Las Vegas Americans finished their only season in the league with a 30–18 record earning them second place in the Western Division of the league. Their home arena was Thomas & Mack Center, and their average attendance was 6,337. The Americans were expelled from the Major Indoor Soccer League on July 17, 1985 when the Board of Directors voted to terminate the franchise due to financial troubles.

The Arizona Wranglers were a professional American football team in the United States Football League that, name-wise, existed from late 1982 to mid-1985. They played at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe.
