Baptism is not required for salvation, but is a testimony of the believer's faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our salvation. So, just as Jesus willingly chose to identify with us in his death, burial and resurrection, now he calls upon us to identify with him in the symbolism of baptism. We choose therefore to be baptized as an act of obedience, because Jesus, who died for us and rose again, commanded us to do it.
