In the late 18th century, these mail coaches would cover the 261 mile 'Irish Mail' route between the city of London and the port of Holyhead (Anglesey, Wales), in approximately 27 hours. At Holyhead, the mail continued its journey to Dublin by boat. The advent of the railways saw the rapid decline of the mail coach in the 1840s and 1850s. Date: 28th July 2011.
