The history that surrounds this extraordinary device is fascinating. The discovery was made on the shores of the Greek island of Anticitera, in the early twentieth century, fishermen found the wreck of a Roman ship. The ship had taken to the bottom of the sea something that apparently did not make much sense. A kind of wheel that was stuck to a rock after so long. Numerous scientists and mathematicians have been studying and discovering what has been revealed as the first analogical computer in known history. The Antikythera mechanism, is an Ancient Greek hand-powered orrery, described as the oldest example of an analog computer used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance.
