San Francisco was a hub of activity in the late '60s, and it wasn't all sex, drugs, and rock n roll. The city by the bay was also home to an increasing number of British motorcycles, so a couple of industrious friends decided to open up a shop to cater to motorbikes from across the pond. With a rented two bay auto shop in the city's gritty Tenderloin Neighborhood, British Moto opened their doors in 1968, and it didn't take long for word to get around. The motorcycle repair shop was booked solid by the end of the first month, and maintained a steady business for the next three decades before the two friends decided to hang it up and retire.

The 1973 British outlaw biker horror film Psychomania was released in the United States as The Death Wheelers and is a wonderfully bad B-movie. The story focuses on an amiable, psychopathic leader of a violent teen motorbike gang who is spurred by his mother, a Satan-worshiping spiritual medium, into committing suicide and returning to life as an "undead." The film is without question a bikesploitation flick, but set in the UK instead of America, as most entries to the genre are.

Dunelt Motorcycles was a British motorcycle and bicycle manufacturer. Based in Sheffield, the business was founded by two steel makers and engineers, Dunford and Elliott (Dunelt is a combination of their names) of Sheffield in 1919. Their first motorcycle was an innovative supercharged 499 cc two-stroke single. The company specialised in good quality sidecars from 1926 and a Dunelt motorcycle was first to cross the desert from Cairo to Siwa and back in 1924. Dunelt also enjoyed racing success and won the Double Twelve Hour World Record at Brooklands with a Model K in 1928. Dunelt moved into commercial three-wheeled cars but these were not a success.

Excelsior, based in Coventry, was a British bicycle, motorcycle and car maker. They were Britain’s first motorcycle manufacturer, starting production of their own ‘motor-bicycle’ in 1896. Initially they had premises at Lower Ford Street, Coventry, and 287-295 Stoney Stanton Road, Hillfields, Coventry, Warwickshire before moving to Kings Road, Tyseley, Birmingham in 1921.

AC Cars, originally incorporated as Auto Carriers Ltd., is a British specialist automobile manufacturer and one of the oldest independent car makers founded in Britain. As a result of bad financial conditions over the years, the company was renamed or liquidated many times until its present form. The first car from what eventually became AC was presented at the Crystal Palace motor show in 1903; it was a 20 HP touring car and was displayed under the Weller name. The Weller brothers of West Norwood, London, planned to produce an advanced 20 hp (15 kW) car.

Triton motorcycles were hybrid motorcycles built from the '50s through the '70s that involved fitting Triumph engines into Norton frames. The aim was to combine the best elements of each marque, and thus gain a bike superior to either. Because no factory offered these hybrid motorcycles, they were typically privately constructed, however, some UK dealers offered complete bikes. The name 'Triton' is a contraction of Triumph and Norton; 'Triton' was the name of a mythological Greek God.
