Originally captured on film in February 1984, this is an image of the Langdale Valley, looking up from Elterwater to the Langdale Pikes, which are in Cumbria, United Kingdom. The last time I was there, nothing much had changed except that it was a bit more crowded. The valley is one of the most popular in the Lake District, especially popular with fell walkers (hikers) who set off from here to climb to the fell tops around the valley. The word 'fell' here is a reference to the mountains, the word itself has its origins in a time when Norsemen settled the land in the early middle ages. The two part Slater Bridge takes advantage of a central large rock and a very long slate slab to cross the River Brathay on its way from Little Langdale Tarn to Elterwater.
