The Desert Inn, also known as the D.I., was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, which operated from April 24, 1950, to August 28, 2000 it was the fifth resort to open on the Strip The closure of the Desert Inn in 2000 and subsequent demolition was unpopular with many as it seemed to mark the end of old Las Vegas. Historian Michael Green stated: "To a lot of people outside of Las Vegas, these two places (the Desert Inn and the Sands) really meant Las Vegas. These were the places that represent the images of Las Vegas, in a far greater way than the Dunes, the Aladdin, the Hacienda and the Landmark

The building has been remodeled today and there is no casino on the property. It was also somewhat infamous for being the site of the shooting of a particular famous rap star whom I am not allowed to name here.

the Las Vegas Gold Key, was located at 3053 Las Vegas Blvd. Opened in 1960. Closed in 1990. Demolished during the Desert Inn Road Super Arterial project It was located across from the Stardust, by the Desert Inn and the Flame Restaurant, on the site of what is now the Gold Key Shops. It had 100 rooms, was 3 stories tall with a glass elevator, heated pool, color TV in every room, coffee shop, drug store, steak house and cocktail lounge.

The Mint opened in 1957. One of the original owners was Milton Prell, who also owned the Hotel Sahara and later the Aladdin hotel-casino. The Mint Las Vegas was a hotel and casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The Mint was the sponsor of the Mint 400, the largest off road race from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s. The Mint was made famous (or infamous) as the first night's stay in Hunter S. Thompson and Oscar Acosta's legendary 1971 weekend trip to Las Vegas, immortalized in Thompson's novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

El Rancho Vegas was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip, built in what would later become Winchester, Nevada. The El Rancho Vegas was the first full service resort to be built on the Las Vegas Strip, at the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. In 1941, The Las vegas Strip was then known as Highway 91, and Sahara Avenue was then called San Francisco Avenue. The El Rancho Vegas was conceived by Thomas Hull, who owned several hotels in California and wanted to expand his operations to Las Vegas. Hull decided to build his new resort along US Highway 91, on desert land located just outside of city limits. On June 17, 1960, a fire destroyed the El Rancho's main building

The Westward Ho opened in 1963. By 1997, it included 777 rooms, a 35,000 sq ft (3,300 m2) casino, and a 900-seat showroom. The Westward Ho closed on November 17, 2005, and was demolished several months later to make way for redevelopment plans which failed to materialize. A McDonald's opened on a portion of the former Westward Ho property in 2008.

Retro Vintage Klondike Casino and Motel Las Vegas. Klondike Hotel and Casino was a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, in the United States. The property began as the Kona Kai Motel in 1962, and was purchased by Ralph Engelstad in 1969. The motel was sold to John Woodrum, who renamed it as the Klondike Inn in 1976

Adjoining Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn Hotel & Country Club, named after the famous French resort, was one of the more glamorous of Las Vegas' Motels Opened 7/3/58 on Desert Inn. Demolished 1/6/94 for the widening of Desert Inn Rd. 71 large, elegantly furnished units with dressing rooms, queen size beds and large family units fit for a king, at low prices to suit every man's purse, plus refrigerated air-conditioning and a heated swimming pool. Flamingo Capri, the motel before Imperial Palace, built an Asian-themed tower known as the "Imperial Palace Tower". The tower was incredibly different from the motel's intended tropical theme. At the time of opening, the resort included Court of a Thousand Treasures, a four-story shopping arcade with 60 stores, overlooking the east end of the 30,000 sq ft (2,800 m2) casino. The Auto Collections opened in 1981, on the fifth floor of a new parking garage. Bird Cage was a casino located on 100 Fremont St in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada where Binion's Gambling Hall and Casino is located today. It opened back in 1958, lasting only almost one year until it closed in 1959 when the Mint, only a few years old, expanded into the property.

The resort included a 31-floor tower, inspired by the design of the Space Needle tower in Seattle. Frank Caroll, the project's original owner, purchased the property in 1961. Billionaire Howard Hughes, through Hughes Tool Company, purchased the Landmark in 1969

The settlement of Las Vegas, Nevada was founded in 1905 after the opening of a railroad that linked Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Urbanization took off in 1931 when work started on the Boulder Dam (now the Hoover Dam), bringing a huge influx of young male workers, for whom theaters and casinos were built, largely by the Mafia. Electricity from the dam also enabled the building of many new hotels along the Strip.
