A popular tourist destination since the late 17th Century when the spa waters were discovered, its' heyday was in Victorian, times when it became known as "Little Switzerland" by the poet, Lord Byron. Victoria Prospect Tower, September 2021 The Victoria Prospect Tower at the Heights of Abraham (Matlock Bath, Derbyshire) was built in 1844 to commemorate Queen Victoria's reign. The Queen (then Princess Victoria) had visited the Heights in the early 1830s, travelling on a donkey. Nowadays most visitors use the cable cars. Date: 8th September 2021.

Starkholmes, Derbyshire, September 2021 Starkholmes is a small village just south of Matlock (Derbyshire, England). The village offers fine views across the Derwent Valley to the Heights of Abraham, and overlooks one of Britain's first tourist resorts, Matlock Bath, in the valley below. Some of the roads in the village are a little steep, but the views are worth the climb, and the cable car station (10 minutes walk downhill from the village) give the place an almost an Alpine feel, though you won't hear cow bells or yodelling!
