Strike Fighter Squadron 211 (VFA-211), nicknamed the "Fighting Checkmates," is an aviation unit of the United States Navy established in 1945. The squadron is based at Naval Air Station Oceana and operates the F/A-18F Super Hornet.

Spooky Oceana

New Zealanders are called Kiwis, after the national bird. Kiwi's can be found all over the world and generally are very proud of being a Kiwi. In Kiwi slang when you put 'as' at the end of the phrase it's to emphasis it an make the feeling even stronger.

I had fun working on this artctic based watercolour painting. Given that the penguin itself has quite a simple colour scheme, I wanted a background that would really bring out the figure in a burst of colour.

Additional squadrons are based at Naval Station Norfolk/Chambers Field, Virginia; Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina; Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington; and Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida. Carrier Air Wing One is assigned to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75).
