The beautiful little Orange-bellied parrot is a critically endangered Australian species. This small parrot breeds in Tasmania. I have painted it her with our native Boronia plant, the seeds of which it loves to eat.

Senegal Parrots, like other Poicephalus parrots, are quieter than other parrot species and often shy although they do have talking and mimicking abilities. They hail from Africa and come with a yellow belly, orange belly, or red belly depending on what region they live in.

Orange Bellied Parrots are rare and endangered, so I was thrilled to get this shot in the Fighting Extinction Aviary at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia. They are part of a captive breeding program to to save this beautiful species.
