A boat (possibly steam) chugging up the River Alde at Snape in Suffolk. It's here that the river becomes tidal as it flows on past Aldeborough from which it takes its name - to meet the North Sea near Orford and for its last few miles becomes the River Ore. This is an important ecological area - a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as well as being an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In 1588, 4 ships were launched from here to fight the Spanish Armada. Now we find sailing clubs!

*Snape Maltings* Number of views as of 2nd April 2018 = 460. The original purpose of Snape Maltings (in the village of Snape on the River Alde, near Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England) was the malting of barley used in the brewing of beer. Local barley (once malted), was sent from here to London and exported to mainland Europe. Today the Maltings house an arts complex, a collection of shops, galleries, restaurants, apartments and a Concert Hall, which is one of the main venues for the annual Aldeburgh Festival of music. The Alde Estuary is known for wildlife and river trips. Date: 29th July 2013.

Looking over a meadow near the quay on the river Alde to the village of Orford in Sussex. This was an important place in medieval times as evidenced in the castle with its fine keep built by Henry II in 1165-73. This impressive polygonal tower is well preserved and inside has rooms and a maze of passages. Near the village is Orford Ness - a shingle spit which links to the mainland at Aldeburgh.
