I painted during a lunch break in nearby Telford (Shropshire, England) town park which has beautiful Maxell Cherry Gardens and Chelsea Gardens. This scene is in Maxell Gardens which is created in the style of a Japanese garden commissioned by Telford based Japanese company Maxell.

The suspension bridge crossing the Menai Straits, connecting the island of Anglesey to mainland Wales viewed here from Anglesey. Before the bridge, the only means of crossing was by ferry - risky due to the fast flowing waters of the Straits. Cattle going to market on the mainland had to swim over - many being swept away by the currents! The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford, work starting in 1819 and finishing in 1826. It was designed so tall ships could sail undeneath.

The history of this flag: (quoted from wiki) The flag is a banner of the arms of the former Shropshire (or Salop) County Council which were awarded in 1895. The leopards' faces, referred to as "loggerheads" locally, are a traditional emblem for Shropshire and several of its towns. It is believed that the loggerheads derive from the Royal Arms of England and that the blue and yellow colours represent those of Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Shrewsbury. Loggerheads also appeared on the Shrewsbury town arms, themselves first recorded in 1623, solidifying their connections to ...

Craigellachie Bridge is a cast iron arch bridge in Speyside, Moray, Scotland and crosses the river Spey near the village of Aberlour. It was designed by the renowned civil engineer Thomas Telford and built from 1812–1814. The bridge has a single span of approximately 46 m and was revolutionary for its time, in that it used an extremely slender arch which was not possible using traditional masonry construction. In 1972, it was replaced by a reinforced concrete bridge which carries the A941 trunk road today. Telford's bridge remains in good condition, and is still open to foot traffic. Best viewed LARGER. Drawn in workbook when at Telford College in 2008 as I attempted to create a portfolio of drawings from the imagination. Rediscovered out in my garage in portfolio case yesterday [apr 2011] and digitally coloured in elements.

Thomas Telford’s Finest Highland Bridge, in Perthshire, Scotland. Dunkeld and Birnam on either side of the River Tay are linked by the solid seven arched bridge built in 1809. The 4th Duke of Atholl commissioned Thomas Telford the great Scottish engineer to build the toll bridge in 1809. Telford did much to open the Highlands with canals, roads and bridges, many still in use today. In 1879 the locals successfully rioted against the continual toll charges, as the cost of the bridge must have been repaid by then. The large white toll gate was removed for the last time, in the middle of the night, to prevent a public demonstration. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.
