In July 2002, 1-504 PIR deployed to Afghanistan with the Task Force (TF) Panther (3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Areas of operation included Kandahar, Bagram Air Base, FOB Shkin, FOB Salerno, FOB Asadabad, and others. In December 2002 to January 2003, TF Devil (1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division), including both 2-504 PIR and 3-504 PIR replaced TF Panther. In January 2003, 2-504 PIR was operating from Bagram Air Base, while the 3-504 PIR was operating from Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 2nd BN of the 4th Artillery was a towed 105MM Howitzer battalion supporting the 9th Infantry Division. Supporting the 2nd Brigade. Later the 2/4 was assigned to support 3rd Brigade under the 25th Infantry Division

1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment - "First Strike" 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry deploys rapidly worldwide by air, land, or sea, occupies an ISB, and on order, conducts air assault or ground operations to destroy enemy forces, seize key terrain or facilities and control specific land areas including populations and resources.

The division served in the III CTZ, with headquarters at Bien Hoa (Oct 1965 – Jan 966), Di An (Feb 1966 – Jan 1967), Di An and Lai Khe (Feb – Sep 1967), Lai Khe (Oct 1967 – Oct 1969) and Di An again (Nov 1969 – Apr 1970). The division left Vietnam in Apr 1970.

The 121st Signal Battalion was a signal unit of the United States Army, inactivated as of July 2006. Prior to deactivation, it provided signal support to the 1st Infantry Division. The battalion served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.

The 508th Infantry Regiment ("Red Devils" or "Fury from the Sky"), previously the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (508th PIR), is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army, first formed in October 1942 during World War II. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, the 2nd Battalion, 3rd US Infantry Regiment, serves as one of three infantry battalions of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division ('Indian Head'). After a 31-year hiatus from service, the 2nd Battalion was reactivated on 15 March 2001 as part of the US Army's first Stryker brigade (inactive) combat team. From February–August 1968, the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (February–August 1968) comprising 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry  2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry  was based here to support post-Tet Offensive operations.

The terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 altered the character of the planned six-month deployment of the 1st Battalion, 180th to Egypt in 2003 as a part of the Multinational Force and Observers. 1st Ranger Company 2nd Infantry Division Oct, 28 1950 Aug, 1 1951 the Ranger Infantry Companies added airborne assault to their repertoire. All Rangers within the companies were airborne qualified. During the course of the war, the Rangers patrolled and probed, scouted and destroyed, attacked and ambushed the Communist Chinese and Korean enemy. The 1st Rangers destroyed the 12th North Korean Division headquarters in a daring night raid. The 2nd and 4th Rangers made a combat airborne assault near Munsan where Life Magazine reported that Allied troops were now patrolling north of the 38th Parallel. Crucially, the 2nd Rangers plugged the gap made by the retreating Allied forces, the 5th Rangers helped stop the Chinese 5th Phase Offensive.

The 58th Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army first established in 1917. Starting in 1962, the 1st Battalion, 58th Infantry served with the 197th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning, while the separate Companies D, E, and F served for varying periods in Vietnam, from 1966 to 1972, under the 93d MP Battalion, the 4th Infantry Division, and the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile), respectively. Company D served as a rifle security company while Companies E and F performed long range reconnaissance missions and were later redesignated as ranger companies of the 75th Infantry.

The Battle of Xa Cam My was fought over two days from April 11–12, 1966, 10 miles (16 km) south of the village of Cam My in Phuoc Tuy Province, during the Vietnam War.[1] Originally planned as a U.S. search and destroy mission intended to lure out the "crack" Viet Cong (VC) D800 Battalion, Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment soon found itself fighting for survival in the rubber plantations of Cam My village, approximately 42 miles (68 km) east of Saigon. During this battle 134 men of Charlie Company, 2/16th Infantry were ambushed by the VC and 80 percent became casualties.

The 167th Infantry Regiment's history lives on in the 1st Battalion, 167th Infantry, "4th Alabama"; part of the Alabama National Guard. The unit traces its history back to the Seminole Indian wars. The 33rd Field Artillery Regiment is an inactive field artillery regiment of the United States Army, first constituted in 1918 in the National Army (USA). A parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, the regiment has no active regiments. The regiment saw active service with the 1st Infantry Division in World War II. In May 1965, two battalions of the 503rd Infantry deployed as part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade to Vietnam as the first major U.S. Army ground combat unit to be deployed, joined later by 4-503rd Inf and 3-503rd Inf (bearing the lineages of the former Company D and Company C, 503rd PIR, respectively). During its six years in Vietnam, the four battalions of the 503rd participated in fourteen campaigns, earning two more Presidential Unit Citations and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. The 2nd Bn (Abn), 503rd Inf participated in the only combat jump of the war during "Operation Junction City" in 1967. It redeployed to the U.S. in July 1971, having the distinction of being one of the last units to leave Vietnam

The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (505th PIR), originally the 505th Infantry Regiment, is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army, one of four infantry regiments of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, with a long and distinguished history.[1] Activated in July 1942 during World War II, the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment participated in the Allied invasion of Sicily, later landing at Salerno, the Battle of Normandy, the Netherlands and the Battle of the Bulge. During the 1960s, the 505th was one of the units which played a role in Operation Power Pack in the Dominican Republic and later assisted local authorities during the civil disturbances which occurred within the United States.
