The Daytona Beach Admirals were a short-lived entry in the Class A Florida State League, operated by long-time Chicago Cubs and National League executive Blake Cullen. The team would last only season as a Chicago White Sox farm club, but Cullen continued on as a minor league sports investor and one year later he recycled the ‘Admirals’ name for a wildly successful minor league hockey team in Norfolk, Virginia. Daytona Beach’s City Island Park was a fairly consistent outpost in the Florida State League dating back to 1959. A succession of teams came and went, several of whom were named the ‘Islanders’.

It was designed by architects Eschweiler & Eschweiler and completed in 1930 using differing materials on the exterior to graduate from dark to light. Admirals Arch at Cape du Couedic is a natural arch formed by the wind, sea and sand of the Southern Ocean. It is at the far south western tip of Kangaroo island, South Australia, and is accessed from an extensive boardwalk and steps. The arch was once a cave but has been worn by erosion into a sea arch. The ceiling is festooned with stalactites, but the floor has been worn smooth. In the sheltered inlet at the base of the arch New Zealand Sea Lions cavort and play in the sheltered water.

Daytona Beach Islanders was a name for various minor league baseball teams that have all played in the Florida State League from 1920–1966 and in 1977 and again from 1985–1986. In 1968 through 1973, the team became the Daytona Beach Dodgers, due to their affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 1977, the team once again took up the Islanders name before becoming the Daytona Beach Astros for the next seven seasons. Then, for the 1985 and 1986 seasons, they were, yet again, known as the Daytona Beach Islanders, playing as a co-op club of the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers for the first of those years and as a full affiliate of the Rangers for the 1986 season. Finally the team became the Daytona Beach Admirals.

The Amsterdam Admirals were formed in 1995 as part of a plan to restart the World League of American Football, but now based entirely in Europe. They qualified for the 1995 World Bowl with a 9–1 regular season record, but lost to the Galaxy by a score of 26–22. Ten years later, the Admirals won their first World Bowl by defeating the defending champion Berlin Thunder 27–21 in the championship game's 13th edition. The next season, they failed to defend their title against the Galaxy 22–7 in World Bowl XIV.

Mitchell Domes Sign • Mitchell Park, Milwaukee WI: Features Mitchell Park Domes. The old Milwaukee conservatory was replaced with a new facility designed by local architect Donald L. Grieb. His design included three domes to open to the public in this order: The “show” dome featuring seasonal plants and special exhibitions in 1965; The tropical dome in 1966; and The arid (or desert) dome in 1967. To this day, many consider the three domed structures to be the gem of Milwaukee’s public parks system. First Lady, Claudia Alta aka “Lady Bird” Johnson dedicated the seasonal dome in September of 1965.
