Bright Angel Point Pins and Buttons

On the path to Bright Angel Point, this tree still stands, years after being torched in a fire started by a lightning strike. I like the silhouette it casts in this dawn sky over the Grand Canyon North Rim.

Lightning strikes the south rim in the distance, as a monsoon storm passes over the Grand Canyon in August, 2014. Catching lightning in these circumstances was difficult due to the sheets and sheets of rain, obscuring the lightning. This was taken from Bright Angel Point. In the far distance, on the left, is Red Butte.

A lone spectator contemplates the beauty that is the Grand Canyon, in this view from Bright Angel Point. The gray off in the distance is, as told by a ranger, 3 fires started by lightning the evening before. This was taken around 10 AM on August 11, 2014. By 1:30 PM the monsoon storms reformed and doused the flames. The following day the entire canyon was filled with clouds, disappointing many tourists that stopped by for only one day. This image was made from 11 stitched shots from a Pentax 645Z.
