Creepy Mermaids Pins and Buttons

Did you know that mermaids in most folk tales are not happy singing half-girl-half-fish, but actually monsters? Cool, huh? Mermaids appear in the folklore of many cultures worldwide. The first stories appeared in ancient Assyria, in which the goddess Atargatis transformed herself into a mermaid out of shame for accidentally killing her human lover. Mermaids are sometimes associated with perilous events such as floods, storms, shipwrecks, and drownings. Mermaids appear in British folklore as unlucky omens, both foretelling disaster and provoking it. That is why I tried to show my mermaid as beautiful, but dark and dangerous looking, she has tentacles for hair and horns. I imagined her being very connected to the Moon...

In the deeper depths of the dark oceans, the fish aren't the only ones who've developed clever ways to lure and catch their prey. In the early 1800s, the submarine crew of the Mole described seeing "lights in the dark, like single eyes boring into your soul." Though later scholars attributed those "fairy lights" to angler or bio-luminescent fish, more than one deep-sea diver has caught flashes of something far too large to be just a fish...

I am feeling my inner creepy cute coming out! Today the weather changed and has that "Fall" scent in the air. So only one thing comes to mind HALLOWEEN!!! IT'S MY TIME!! I came up with this creepy cute ragdoll mermaid for the start of the season. Ragdoll Mermaid is my creation no one is to use, edited or copy my work. Posted 8-1-21.

Two heads one eye

According to one Greek myth, Pisces represents the fish into which Aphrodite and her son Eros transformed in order to escape the monster Typhon, the “father of all monsters”. A similar myth, one in which the fish “Pisces” carry Aphrodite and her son out of danger. Another myth is that an egg fell into the Euphrates river. It was then rolled to the shore by fish. Doves sat on the egg until it hatched, out from which came Aphrodite. As a sign of gratitude towards the fish, Aphrodite put the fish into the night sky.

So... I'm saying it again: mermaids are not nice, they don't sing happy songs and play with lobsters, they don't grow legs to dance with pretty guys or whatever - mermaids are horrible monsters that lurk men into their deaths. This one I tried to make extra killer and creepy, giving her a plague-doctor-mask-face and horns and tentacles and a human skull to hold... and super disturbing eyes. I can see her starring in a horror film or something...
