According to Greek mythology,[1] the Chimera, Chimaera, or Chimæra (/kaɪˈmɪərə, kɪ-/ ky-MEER-ə, kih-; Ancient Greek: Xίμαιρα, romanized: Chímaira, lit. 'she-goat')was a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature from Lycia, Asia Minor, composed of different animal parts. It is usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, occasionally depicted with dragon's wings, and a tail that might end with a snake's head. It was an offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of monsters like Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra

I've always found inspiration in mythology of all kinds, and I really enjoy taking classic images and re-imagining them as a stylized modern icon. The anatomical tribal line work was arrived at by stream of consciousness doodling.

Greek mythology says that the chimera was a fire breathing hybrid creature composed of a lion with the head of a goat on its back and a tail ending in a snake’s head. The term has since come to describe any type of monstrous animal made up of parts from various beasts. For my interpretation, I tried to mostly recreate the original form, though I moved the head of the goat to a more anatomically appropriate (and aesthetically pleasing) place beside the lion’s head. The colors I used reference Greek red and black figure pottery on which many ancient chimera illustrations have been found.
